Above Us, is a special project built in collaboration with Patrick Berlinquette, a Google Ads expert known for using data to drive social impact. Patrick’s work in digital marketing and research has been featured in The New York Times and Wired. Above Us, was created to track Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP) sightings. This isn’t just another data visualization tool; it’s a comprehensive UAP tracking app designed to inform, engage, and bring cutting-edge tech to an unconventional field of interest.
Big Ideas, Proven Process
We thrive on taking big ideas and turning them into polished, purposeful products. With Above Us, we followed our tried-and-true approach: starting with a solid technical discovery, then adding layers of functionality, refining each detail, as design and development ran in tandem. Special shout out to Joe Frederick, whose world-class talent crafted the Above Us logo and brand, setting the visual tone for the app from day one.

With the brand in place, we designed and developed a front-end experience capable of handling a massive amount of data. This project gave us the chance to tackle unique challenges in processing, aggregating, organizing, and displaying data in a meaningful way.
Thanks to a solid data schema and infrastructure crafted by Michael Smith and Dillon Lomnitzer, we built a data automation pipeline that powers Above Us, ensuring seamless data flow and reliable updates. We then strengthened the app’s backend architecture, adding robust security testing for a smooth, secure user experience.
Our tech stack—featuring Ionic React, Mapbox GL, Firebase, and Supabase—allowed us to map sightings with pinpoint accuracy and deliver real-time notifications as sightings are discovered. Our enthusiasm for tech and curiosity about unusual ideas made this project especially fun.
